BIRDWATCHERS'S WALHALLA

BIRDWATCHING

One of the charms of the Palacio Viejo is that you can be having breakfast while watching a blue tit fluttering on a hedge in the garden.

Ornitología

Thousands of birds... without leaving the house

Around the house you can see house sparrows, house martins, common and spotless starlings, woodchat shrikes and loggerhead shrikes.

Barn swallows nest in the eaves of our roofs, and in summer there are also red-rumped swallows and house martins.

Ornitología

A multitude of species

On the paths of the estate you can also spot skylarks, larks, crested larks, chickadees, great tits, blue tits, robins, goldfinches, nightingales, wheatears, stonechats, blackbirds, redstarts, goldfinches, rock buntings, jays, blackcaps, partridges, hoopoes, nightjars and European turtle doves.

Birds of passage

In summer, all kinds of birds pay us a visit, including Egyptian vultures, short-toed eagles, black kites, bee-eaters, orioles and booted eagles. They are easy to spot in search of prey, as the entie estate is their feeding ground. In winter we are visited by common and redwinged thrushe and hawfinches, not to mention the spectacular passage of the cranes.

All year round

Among the resident birds, present all year round, the birds of prey stand out. It is easy to spot griffon vultures, black vultures, red kites, owls, eagle owls, golden eagles, common kestrels and above all the most emblematic species of Spanish birdlife: the imperial eagle.

Other activities in the surrounding areas

Reconnecting emotionally with our natural surroundings.

At night, the Palacio Viejo de las Corchuelas will offer you marvellous views from one of the best places in Spain for stargazing: Monfragüe.

Here you can observe and take pictures of scavengers feasting on carrions from less than ten metres away.
